Reflecting on Scripture
Daily Devotion:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-8 ESV
Have you let worry creep into your life? It happens with great ease when we take our eyes off God. In the middle of caregiving tasks we become distracted by our to-do lists. When we finally look up we realize that a whole day, week, month has gone by without spending time with the Lord.
I can’t count the number of times my father has quoted this scripture to me. Although I suspect that he quotes it as a reminder to himself, it has benefited me many times throughout the years. Perhaps I needed to hear it just as much as he did.
It isn’t bad to recognize the problems around you, however, it becomes sinful when we hold those problems tight in our own hands and refuse to take them to God. Make a quick list of the things bothering you this morning. Time? Money? Medications? Now, take them to God. Thank him for how he is working in your life already and for who he is. Open the hand with which you are holding your concerns tight in your control and let his peace replace it, filling you to overflowing.
A Prayer for Guidance
Prayer for Peace
Heavenly Father, I thank you for grace you show me when I fall short. Today I am feeling overwhelmed by the tasks set before me. Help me to lay these burdens at your feet. I want to grow closer to you and carry your peace with me as I continue to work as a caregiver. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
