Reflecting on Scripture
Daily Devotion:
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18 ESV
There are many times in my daily life that I encounter people that think they have all the answers. Sometimes they are right. Often they are wrong. And frequently, they argue against God’s wisdom because they are waiting for “new knowledge” or a “special revelation” that will make God real to them.
What a lot of people miss is that God’s reasoning doesn’t always align with human logic. As it says in Isaiah 55, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD.” We talk ourselves out of believing in God or his plans because we assume he would do things the way we would.
In Paul’s letter to the Corinthian church, he points out that the message of the cross is enough to persuade people to believe without the eloquent sermons or arguments that the Greeks valued. To those that were being saved, the simple message told by Paul was enough.
As family caregivers, you may encounter people that think you are foolish in your belief. They will point to your loved one’s health struggles or your work caring for them as evidence that God can’t be real. To the unsaved, faith through difficulty doesn’t make logical sense. You and I know that God will use your weakness to shame the strong. Be bold in your faith today–it may not make earthly sense according to the wisdom of men, but by the power of the Holy Spirit through Chirst Jesus, you may live redeemed and boast in the work of the Lord.
A Prayer for Guidance
Prayer for God's Wisdom
Heavenly Father, thank you for opening my eyes to the gospel. Help me stand strong in my faith when the world tries to tell me it is foolishness. Be strong in my weakness and use my speech to reach the unsaved. Fill me with your wisdom and discernment so that I won’t be deceived by false teachings that will take me further from you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
