Daily Inspiration for Family Caregivers
Nurturing Faith and Caregiving
Join us on a journey of spiritual growth as we challenge one another to live boldly for Christ while caregiving.
**I couldn’t help looking up a handful of scriptures that focus on the heart since February is heart awareness month. If you read the About page on this website, you will know that heart health is an important subject in my family. Granted, heart awareness month focuses on our physical heart, but I want to remind everyone that your spiritual heart health matters even more.
Reflecting on Scripture
Daily Devotion:
“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.” 1 John 3:18-22 ESV
There is a difference between saying the right things and living them. We all know of church leaders, politicians, and celebrities that have said things to the approval of their followers, only to be later exposed as hypocrites. We are reminded in 1 John, that as part of the body of Christ, we are to love our brothers not only in word, but in action.
Because we live in a sinful world, it is possible to speak of compassion but remain unmoved by someone’s need. It is possible to hear people expect forgiveness while still holding on to silent resentment. It is possible for us to profess our faith and avoid obedience, especially in small, unseen places.
The inward conviction of sin–in this scripture referred to as the our heart condemning us–is a reminder that we can fail to live up to the standards of our Holy God. This godly grief makes us aware of our failures and forces us to repentance.
Take heart if you feel conviction in your spirit today. As a Christian, you are covered by the blood of the Messiah. You do not need to continue to live in sin. Turn away from the ways of the world and align your heart with God. Authentic faith is abiding in Him and keeping his commandments. In this way you will live out your faith in deed and truth.
A Prayer for Guidance
Prayer for Living an Authentic Faith
Heavenly Father, thank you for your Son who laid down his life for me while I was still a sinner. As your child, I do not want to make a practice of sinning. Help me to instead practice righteousness and show love to my brother. Guide me in your way and align my heart to the things you love. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
