Daily Inspiration for Family Caregivers

Nurturing Faith and Caregiving

Join us on a journey of spiritual growth as we challenge one another to live boldly for Christ while caregiving.

**I couldn’t help looking up a handful of scriptures that focus on the heart since February is heart awareness month. If you read the About  page on this website, you will know that heart health is an important subject in my family. Granted, heart awareness month focuses on our physical heart, but I want to remind everyone that your spiritual heart health matters even more.

Reflecting on Scripture

Daily Devotion:

“I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11 ESV

Family caregiving is full of moments that don’t allow time to search and study the Bible for guidance or comfort. Decisions are required quickly. Emotions are running  high. Fatigue has settled in deep. And in these moments, what we have already stored in our hearts is what will guide us and keep us from error.

Psalm 119:11 reminds us to hide God’s word in our hearts. Scripture is not merely a book to gather dust on the bookshelf. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Heb. 4:12) It is the framework upon which your life is built, that lets you know who God is and what he expects from you.

Many of us who grew up in the church have a handful of scriptures memorized–probably in the KJV English. That is a great place to start, but don’t stop there! Even if you don’t have a lot of extra time on your hands, my challenge to you is to write out a passage of scripture and put it in places you go frequently (e.g., bathroom mirror, fridge door). Say it aloud every time you see it. You can also have the Bible read to you through different Bible apps. Pick a book of the Bible and listen to it on repeat. Doing this will not only help you better understand who God is and how much he loves you, but it will redirect your thoughts so that your actions will bring glory to God.

A Prayer for Guidance

Prayer for a Heart Full of God's Word

Heavenly Father, help me hide your word in my heart. You know I’m tired and overwhelmed with my caregiving duties, but I long to honor you in all I do. Renew my mind with your words and transform me from the inside out, so that others may see you in all I do. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
