Daily Inspiration for Family Caregivers

Nurturing Faith and Caregiving

Join us on a journey of spiritual growth as we challenge one another to live boldly for Christ while caregiving.

**I couldn’t help looking up a handful of scriptures that focus on the heart since February is heart awareness month. If you read the About  page on this website, you will know that heart health is an important subject in my family. Granted, heart awareness month focuses on our physical heart, but I want to remind everyone that your spiritual heart health matters even more.

Reflecting on Scripture

Daily Devotion:

“…For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:34 ESV

Words are important. Words reveal what we believe, what we think, and likely, how we behave. Jesus tells the Pharisees that their words about him reveal what they think about God. And what they were holding in their hearts wasn’t pretty.

Perhaps the Pharisees started out wanting to seek God’s will and keep his commandments, but it had turned into idolatry. They created extreme interpretations of God’s commandments and believed in their own holiness. They called Jesus a blasphemer and because of this they missed the Messiah standing right in front of them.

What are the words you have used today? What are you holding in your heart? As a caregiver, you are often put under extreme amounts of pressure. Your stress is high, exhaustion is constant, and your frustration may be ready to boil over. Be careful that you are not letting sinful thoughts to take root in your heart during this time. Don’t allow momentary turmoil set you on a path away from God, but lay your burdens at his feet. Welcome joy and peace from the Holy Spirit  in substitution for anger and resentment. Let words of praise for God fill your mouth. Have a heart filled with abundant love that overflows in every situation, with every interaction, and with every word.

A Prayer for Guidance

Prayer for a Heart Filled with Joy

Heavenly Father, thank you for being faithful with grace and mercy when I fail to live a life of holiness. Fill my heart with joy and peace because of the hope I have through your Son, Jesus. Let the words from my mouth be edifying and full of praise for the work you have done. I put my trust in you to finish the work you began in my life. Provide opportunities to share my testimony with those you have prepared to hear it. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
