Reflecting on Scripture
Daily Devotion:
“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” Psalm 63:3 ESV
Caregiving can stretch love to its limits. There are days when you give your time, your energy, and your patience, and you still feel like it isn’t enough. In these moments of isolation and exhaustion, you need the sustaining power of God.
Psalm 63 was written about David’s time in the wilderness of Judah. He was surrounded by danger and cut off from worshiping in the sanctuary. His words paint a vivid picture of being dry, cut off from water and fainting for the presence of God.
Your wilderness may look different but be just as barren. Long nights, constant vigilance, and unending responsibilities can drain the strongest among us. You may even be living in figtht or flight mode, always waiting for something terrible to happen. It is easy to forget that you are supposed to rest in the Lord, rely on his strength, and let the Holy Spirit fill you with unending joy.
Determine in your mind today that when your have these emotions threaten to overwhelm you, you will take those thoughts captive choose to spend a moment seeking God’s presence. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Call out to him like David. You too can find the living water that will satisfy your soul and put praise on your lips.
