Reflecting on Scripture

Daily Devotion:

“Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.” Psalm 25: 4 ESV

Family caregiving often begins with a steep learning curve. When a loved one becomes ill or needs daily support, many caregivers quickly realize how much they don’t know. How do I manage medications? What is the best way to help with mobility? How do I navigate the medical system?

Wise caregivers rarely try to figure things out alone. Instead, they seek those who have walked the path before them–experienced caregivers, nurses, social workers, or support groups. By learning to ask questions, they gain practical knowledge and wisdom that helps them on their journey through caregiving.

Our journey of faith is similar. David asks in this Psalm for the LORD to teach him, lead him in truth. He understood that life’s challenges required guidance and wisdom that was beyond his knowledge. Rather than relying on his own instincts, he asked God to instruct him.

We all can do the same by spending time in the word of God daily. Open the Bible not just out of religious habit, but to learn from the one who created you in his image. Through his word, God will teach you how to find peace in redemption, abide in his joy during difficulty, and have hope for the future because of salvation through Jesus.

A Prayer for Guidance

Prayer for Guidance

Heavenly Father, thank you for your steadfast love and mercy. Teach me your ways and truth. Guide me through the difficult times of caregiving so that I do not stray from your path. Thank you for giving me another day to walk with you and to know you better. May all I do honor your name. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
